Annual Report 2022/Story: Guidelines for association engagement
In this story, we focus on the work we have done to clarify our view of, and work with, membership and engagement. The guidelines are intended to lay the foundation for Wikimedia Sverige works with association engagement and how we're making it easier for more people to find their place.
This work has been done in parallel with other processes in our organization, such as developing Wikimedia Sverige's Strategy and clarifying our values. Because of that, the different definitions used in the association have also been harmonized, so that everyone knows what we are talking about when we use, for example, the term "member". It is also connected to our educational activities, as we have started to develop training courses about the association and our platforms, activities and tools.
The guidelines contain a new model that we designed, which clarifies different people's place in their membership journey. Different roles are described, and we specify how the different levels are achieved, how our members are to be supported in their roles and how a member can progress towards more involvement or take on a new role.
Both our staff and the board have discussed the guidelines to make sure they're formulated as thoroughly as possible.
Since the idea of a more structured work is that it should lead to increased involvement in our association, the work may affect the organizational structure in the long term, for example if there is a need to review our democratic structure or the process of formalizing local activities. We haven't yet started working on those questions, but we are prepared for the future.
