Overview of this quarter

HIGHLIGHTS: Our Wikipedia Education progress are really picking up speed. We are focusing on working with the educators that are most interested in really making a difference, which gives us a very positivie spin.
WIKI-FOCUS: Our target this month has mostly been Wikipedia but we are using Wikiversity as a platform for our Wikipedia online cours for educators.
GROWTH: Over 75 educators reached through a number of activities, workshops and personal meetings.

Booked 2 future workshops after lectures held Had a blogpost published at a educational forum for teachers with information about the online course Had six signups for the online course for teachers Were published in an article at the Swedish ministry of education (Skolverket) about our night at the Nobelmuseum Supported one teacher from Täby gymnasium in what images to take for Commons when on fieldtrip in Spain with pupils	Talking at events which are freely visited by teachers but not mandatory works better than forced meeting where they are less interested generally. Simply being present at Ed-camps and such alikes are important to network and make a 'name' for ourselves in the educational sphere in Sweden. To give away workshop will have to be less generosily done, and with more focus on what they will achieve with it before offering a free workshop to them. Smaller groups are better! When in lectures with about ten people, there are plenty of opportunity to have dialouges about Wikipedia and it's usage in education. Whn more, there is less opportunity to talk.
Content liberation	Increase GLAM's general interest to freely license their material and make it available for the projects. Enhance the quality of the donated material.	Started working on a video on how to upload to Commons. Collaboration with the Centre for Business History on article creation competition. Discussion about a Wikipedian in residence at a major organisation. Helping with metadata mapping for larger uploads. Two municipalities released their data to our database of public art	2 volunteers making films and music for the film. A volunteer running the article creation competition with help from board and staff members. Publicity generated by cooperation with an already existing competition. Staff members involved in WiR discussions and batch upload help. Public art data released and worked on as part of the Europeana Awareness Wiki Loves Public Art contest.	Even though the GLAMs are very enthusiastic and positive, not all of them have internal resources to make a large commitment. The National Public Art Council Sweden (Statens konstråd) agreed to releasing their art collection database but felt that the legal status surrounding FoP was not sufficiently clear to release their pictures.
Reader participation	Identify weaknesses in the quality of content and disseminate our findings. Identify weaknesses in the user interface and work to get them solved. Create a positive image of the projects.	Meeting with the Center for easy reading to see if they can assist with guidance on how to write ingresses that are easier to understand. 15 editors involved to pick articles for a test drive. wikilovespublicart.se launched, competition starts in May.	Good feedback on articles that need rewritten ingresses.	Great way to involve the community.
Free knowledge awareness	Make policy makers and institutions aware of the advantages of free knowledge.	Intern researched parties motions regarding free knowledge, open source and free licensing.	We are finding potential members of parliament that we should start working with.	The Swedish parliament website is a great resource for research.

Lessons from this month

What were your major accomplishments in the past month, and how did you help to achieve movement goals?
Response:
- Great interest in the education program in Sweden from teachers and others within the education sector. This is due to intense work of sharing the ideas about Wikipedia as a resource in education from the Wikimedia Sverige office to teachers and others around the country.

What were your major setbacks in the past month (e.g., programs that were not successful)?
Response:
- Too much giving away free workshops and seminars for the education program as a point for teachers during a teaching day with too little obligation to provide anything back. A model to prevent this is just about to be presented for staff and boardmembers within Wikimedia Sverige.

What factors (organizational, environmental) enabled your success?
Response:
- Enthusiastic staff
- Interesting and rewarding partnerships with schools, other educational organisations and museums.

What unanticipated challenges did you encounter and how did this affect what you were able to accomplish?
Response:
- No surprises this month.

What changes might you make in executing your initiatives into the next month?
Response:
- To a greater extent, make those we work with commit to a long term cooperation instead of one-offs.
